Left 4 Dead

YAY!! Finally a proper game review!! Goodness, I’ve been wanting to do one for a long time but couldn’t find a game to do that on. Especially not when I have blogged most of the games I liked in the school blog I had for Games Level Design module. Anyways, this was a pretty famous game now I guess. Aren’t very sure of the market since I only notice the online games and hardly play any pc games anymore. Yip, as you can see, it’s a horror and thrilling game, in first person shooter mode.

Have I mention how I sucked in FPS games? The reason why I could never go for any games competition or play any lan is because, not only do I suck in FPS games, I’m not good in strategic games either. I don’t give a hick about strategic games since I don’t particularly like how things in WarCraft looks like, and that is the game they use for competitions also right. The thing is, only online RPG games attracts me haha.

The reason why I suck in FPS games? I have no sense of direction. I even get lost on Singapore streets, how could I survive in FPS games? Before I even got my directions right. BANG! And I’m lying on the floor the next second. Not to say FPS games move very fast, so if I turn too fast I gets giddy. Especially when in places like a building’s corridors. I’ll turn to open a door, go in, come out, and I will forget which direction I came from. Don’t be doubtful, my sense of direction is admirable. I can even get lost in games which provides maps. Godlike-ness HAHA.

Anyways. This games really scares the hell out of me. I have a very weak heart. I dun mean vulnerable to heart attacks. But I can’t stand it when I just turn and saw ghostly things in front of me. Goodness. Even if I dun have heart attack, I think sooner or later I will also got it. Yup, this is the kind of game.

Typical plot like the whole place was infested with zombies, and after all the chaos, only 4 survives.

Yeah, that’s how it is. So in this game, these 4 people is trying to escape. There’s this random helicopter giving instructions to survivors to go to this particular building to be save. For now, I’ve only played until map 2. Which is whereby they are rescued by the helicopter already. Anyways, it’s only the first act, what I’ve heard from my brother is that there’s 4 acts, and 4 maps for each acts. So you can guess like how useless I am HAHA! I cannot stand the thrill man, totally. Not to mention my skill of getting lost in god-knows-where places, when I see hordes and hordes, I mean HORDES of zombies running towards me, I just get hysterical. Just as I like hysterical music, I’m a hysterical person too hehex. So instead of using my brain and use bombs, my first reaction is to put on machine gun and start shooting. The most amazing thing about my reactions are that when I’m taking time to reload, I actually forgot that I could have just used right mouse click to knock them away. I just stood there and trying hysterically spamming left clicks, which obviously, doesn’t work. Luckily I had 3 other bots with me, if I’m the only one playing, I bet I wouldn’t even be able to pass the first map.

Actually, one good thing about this game is that you can gather up 3 more friends and play with you. So you guys play as the 4 heroes and go on a killing spree!! Or unless you guys wanna play as the zombies and kill the players. Sounds fun, but of course it will be 4 zombies on 4 players also haha. I can only play with my brother and with 2 bots supporting. Why? Cuz when I go into hysterical mode, I actually shoot my own comrades. But of course I will stop it, but most of the time I still managed to shot them ayz.

Anyways, going into the details of different kinds of zombies. Firstly, boomer. My first hate.

Being the fat slob as it is, you guys might be thinking, you can see this guy from a few miles away, why would you hate this thingy? The thing is, this thing is duper irritating, sometimes when you turn a corner and TA DAH!! It’s in front of you. And even if your reaction is fast enough to kill it, it will explode and some annoying poison juicy sludges will still be splashed on you, which will blur your sights and this great sludgey thing will call on hordes of zombies to come for you. But of course your comrades will help you, and you can still try to shoot the front of you, just be sure to not shoot them yourself, which is what normally happens to me hehe. Anyways, I gotta say that my brother’s reactions is damn fast. Situation as follows:

Bro(B): *Turns a corner*
Me(M): *Follows up behind* (Cuz don’t dare to take lead haha)
B: *Quickly turns back* (We dun speak to each other through the game, we are just next to each other) Shit! Boomer!
M: *Still blindly following* Huh? Where?… *BLECHH!* Saw it. SHIT!
B: Told you already, still go for what?
M: How I know ma!
B: … Idiot.

Yeah, so I’m constantly insulted because my reactions is slower than a fish. I hate you Boomer!! *Lame*

Okay, second one. Hunter.

Goodness, this is the first time I’ve seen how hunter looks like also HAHA! Well, reason being that once you noticed a hunter around, it is already ON somebody. This guy pins players down and kill them while immobilizing their victims. So if you are the one being pinned down, get ready for some screaming, scream for help I mean. Well, if you are thinking of different kind of screaming, you are perverted (Well, I admit that I was thinking of the other one, doesn’t matter if you don’t get it haa~) In this situation, you can either wait for help, or just wait to die. Unless the hunter find you to not be delicious and goes away, which equates to 0% of that happening. By the way, hunter runs around on buildings, and will just jump on you when they spot you.

Now that I think about it, I havent actually had the chance to take a proper look at any of the zombies. Well, how could that be possible? When I see them from like far far away, I am already spamming bullets on them.

Okay, on to the third. Smoker. I hate this thing also.

See that long pinkish thing that’s holding the player. That’s its tongue. Well, that’s normally how it make its appearance. Before you knew anything, you are being dragged off your feet and being dragged to it. Just like the previous one, you can’t do anything but call for help, again. As long as bots/friends melee the smoker, the tongue will drop and you’re free again. Or, the friend/bot can just kill the smoker, which will also sets you free.

Sad to say, I’m always the victim of this three things, so I can totally share how I feel to be the common victim. It sucks. Adding on to my fear of roaming the place bahz. Adding on to my hysterical bar.

Anyway, through doing this review, I went around sourcing for the pictures and read some guides that I was oblivious to. Apparently, when hordes and hordes of zombies come towards me, what I should do when reloading gun was to right click to melee them. This action will push them away and stun them a while, which I haven’t been doing. My reflexive action was to spam the left mouse button, even when the character is reloading the gun. And being the slow shit I am, when it finally dawned on me that I should click the right button. CLICK! The gun is reloaded. Goodness.

Okay now for a bigger boss thingy. Tank.

Okay, this is a very thrill-inspired thing. I’m always on a lookout for this. Because, when this thing sees you, it will just keep charging towards you like a bull. The worst thing is that, I’m a bad escaper. When I see things charging towards me, first reaction, move backwards and shoot at the same time. The thing is, everytime when I saw this thingy, my back happens to be the nice piece of wall. And being in hysterical mode also, I just practically keep pressing back but still sees the thingy’s face coming nearer and nearer to me. So, same thing happens again, when I realised I cannot move back, the thing is already in front of me, kept pushing me and I can’t move left and right at all. Good thing is, you still have you friends/bots with you. So, just pray that they finish it early. Oh, maybe you can try meleeing it. I think I will try it next time. Let’s just hope my corked up brain will work better the next time I play haha.

Last but not least…. THE WITCH!! The last of all haha.

Naw. Like as if it’s so cute.

Yip, the most powerful zombie of all. Hmm.. This one is easy to spot even when you’re far away from her. Cuz once you’re near her, you will start to hear crying sounds. Best thing is to avoid her, which is what I normally do. Because if you provoked her, she will come after you, one stike on you and you’re on the floor. First time when I played this with my brother, we saw this and he told me there’s a witch. Being the curious person I always was, I went to look at it, luckily not spotted by her. If you shine your light at her, or lingered near her, she will stopped crying and come after you. So I asked him, is it easy to kill? Yeah, one strike kill. And I’m like. “Go kill her then!”

“She one strike will kill you”.

Zz. So I got the meaning wrong. Yeah, so that’s how it is haha.

Overall conclusion of the game. Kinda remind me of House of the Dead. But of course this one is actually much more scarier than House of the Dead. Even with the big screen when I played HOTD, I still think this small screen of Left 4 Dead is so much more scarier. But I still think this is a game worth trying. Kinda interesting to play haha~

I think I will be blogging more games after this man. Seems like such a long time since I wrote anything about games haha. IT starts the engine in me hoho~
